“Health is wealth. Peace of mind is happiness. Yoga shows the way.”
The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali
The course delves into the universal teachings of the Yoga Sutras, helping us discover a transcendental depth within ourselves where joy, rest, and self-healing reside. This study provides clarity and inspiration for our spiritual journey, offering valuable insights into meditation and its methods.
The Yoga Sutras is a text concerned with human suffering, particularly mind-created suffering (or dukha), and offers a system of practice for eradicating this.
Although the outer historical, cultural, political, circumstances of India 1500 years ago, when the Yoga Sutras were composed, are very different from today, has the inner human condition really changed? Do we not as human beings have the same desire for happiness and the removal of discomfort, pain and suffering as people had back then?
The Yoga Sutras describes our inner landscape, and is just as relevant today - if not even more so - due to our highly distracted minds and distorted sense of reality. This misunderstanding of who and what we really are, this misperception of reality is known as avidya, or ignorance.
Maharishi Patanjali urges us to look at Viveka, discernment, Vairagya, the determination and focus, Swadhyaya, introspection and Abhyasa, repetitive practices to bring about the change that we so desperately seek.
A study of the Sutras will help us in finding direction. It will help us in bringing more meaning and depth to our daily yoga practice. Ultimately Patanjali’s yoga sutras is the key to help us be free from the trammels of our mind.
Embark on this transformative experience of understanding and working with the Yoga Sutras to deepen your practice of Yoga and Meditation.
