Sivananda Yoga Teachers’ Academy (SYTA)

On Teachers’ Day, 2013, Sivananda Yoga Centre, Gurgaon gave birth to the Sivananda Teachers’ Academy, the start of a special ongoing programme for Sivananda teachers and teacher training graduates.

The Sivananda Yoga Teachers’ Academy (SYTA) is a project which seeks to address the question – “what happens after the TTC?”

SYTA is born out of a need to keep up the practice, the desire of a dedicated Sivananda practitioner to be in the company of other teachers, to learn and grow together. It seeks to fulfill a gap which exists in the Sivananda programme – continuing education and training, back in the city, and the fun and enjoyment of being part of a special group, and doing activities together. If we have been designated leaders, we need an environment where that leadership can continue to be nurtured, much like what we got in the Ashram.

I am happy that we in Gurgaon will now have an opportunity to meet and practice together, as well as share wisdom, experience and knowledge. The Sivananda Yoga Teachers’ Academy will have special classes and courses for Sivananda teachers, workshops on teaching, and teaching practices, visiting faculty sessions, and programmes where you as a teacher can uplift your own spiritual energy, improve your practice, and also, if you so wish, improve your own teaching.

We will have teachers' intenisves with a two-hour asana and pranayama class every week. This will be a TTC-level open class.

Senior and experienced teachers who have assisted in TTCs, teach the classes.

All Sivananda TTC graduates are welcome – whether you are teaching at the Centre or not, to come and enjoy the classes and improve your practice.

I hope you will be part of the Academy, both in person and in spirit. The project has had a long gestation. Now that it has been born, for it to succeed needs your enthusiasm, support, and willingness. The Teachers’ Academy is for you. How it eventually turns out, will also depend on you. Your ownership of the project, and your presence is vital. Without it, the Academy will be nothing.
