Many years ago, I did my first class at the Sivananda Centre, just like you did recently.
It has been 30 years since that day, and I am so glad I decided to visit, and to join the yoga classes.
The Sivananda Centre, the teachers, the members, and the yoga classes have given me so much – good health, happiness, and a profound sense of well-being.
It is therefore, with a great sense of joy and pride, that I welcome you to the Centre, and its rich heritage, which awaits you.
A regular practice of yoga at the Sivananda Centre will help you to get good health and well-being. You will slowly develop an inclination towards a stress-free lifestyle and in general, make you more happy and relaxed.
The yoga class and system which we teach is one of the most popular forms of yoga in the world today, easy to begin, to understand and to practice.
The ambience in our centres is relaxing and refreshing, and it feels like home, away from home. Also, being in a group with like-minded people elevates the quality of your practice and inspires you to do more. Many people have been practising at the Centre for three to five years, and some for even longer than a decade, and you can learn from their experience.
We also have many newcomers to the class as well, which will also make you feel comfortable. People from all walks of life, of all ages, and all backgrounds practice yoga at the Centre.
Most importantly, we have highly trained teachers who are good at taking care of people, and handle the classes with great sensitivity and understanding.
All the teachers at the Centre have taken an international yoga teachers’ training course (certified by Yoga Alliance – www.yogaalliance.org) at ashrams around the country.
These and other courses and workshops were created over 50 years ago, and have presence in the United States, Canada, Europe, South east Asia and India. Each teacher goes through the same rigorous gurukula system of training – learning by repetitive practice under the supervision of senior, more experienced teachers. They learn to have sensitivity, respect and a deep understanding of the human condition.
Sivananda Yoga Centre, Gurgaon
Sivananda Yoga Centre, Gurgaon was set up on 1 April 2004. Two of us, Deeksha, (certified in 2003 to teach yoga), and I (certified in 1995), set up the Centre in Gurgaon. Its main purpose is to spread the teaching and practice of an authentic and ancient system of yoga, thereby promoting health, well-being, a stress-free lifestyle and more balanced and visionary individual.
We have daily yoga classes, special courses, annual programmes and retreats, an international yoga teachers’ training course, yoga during pregnancy, and yoga classes for children and teenagers.
The Centre has also taught or continues to teach classes in various organizations.
Since its inception, the Centre has taught nearly 30000 yoga classes at the centre, and another 15000 classes involving individuals, groups and organizations, outside the centre. More than 50,000 people have taken classes with us, mostly in Gurgaon, over the past 18 years, and more than 150,000 people from all over the world, online, since March 2020. Currently, over 3000 new people come to the Centre every year, to try classes, and make yoga a way of life. You can be one of them.
The Centre receives over 1000 people every week in over 100 open classes across two locations in Gurgaon, and online, on Zoom.
Get maximum benefits
The best way to practice at the Centre is to come regularly for practice, two to seven times a week. Within the first month, attend the Beginner's course. Talk to the teachers, before and after your practice, and ask questions or share experience which will help you move forward. Be patient with yourself, with the teachers at the Centre and with the system, and with yoga. It will be give results, but sometimes, it takes time. Do not judge your performance, especially in the first few days, and do not underestimate the Centre or the teachers to give you the best. In three months, most of the initial doubts, hesitation, opinions and false expectations will drop away, and you will start loving yoga.
